I got sick with something cold-like this week. I feel like I've been getting sick way too often! I was slightly sick in Japan a month ago, I got sick in June and missed Evan's wedding (T-T), and I think there were a few times before that this year as well. I know that my immune system is out of whack in some ways, but I wonder what I can do to make it a bit stronger. Maybe I just need to be more diligent about masking.

Anyway, that took up most of my week, which in a way was a welcome break from the regular deluge of plans and work and various commitments that have largely overwhelmed my life lately. Even though I know it's not good for my body, part of me secretly enjoys it when I get a mild kind of cold, bad enough that it puts me out of commission but not so bad that I can't watch 7 hours of Slow Horses in one day. It lets me completely succumb to doing nothing, which I find very hard to do when I feel normal, though I'd love to be better at that. Perhaps time for a re-read of Jenny Odell…

Last weekend before I was sick, Ali and Fran came over for dinner. I was feeling cheffy so I wanted to make an ambitious meal, and it somehow came together exactly as I envisioned! I am way more used to my ambitious meals becoming semi-disasters, but maybe this means I've learned from past mistakes. I think it helped that I gave myself a lot of buffer time.

So yes, the food ~~ I made a creamy kabocha pasta with pancetta and sage (cobbled together from a couple recipes including this one), Danny made dry fried string beans (recipe), and we finished with this "posh pear sorbet" (lol) (recipe). Ice cream makers are beautiful machines 🙂‍↕️. And Ali and Fran brought a yummy baguette & drinks!

Yay to good food and enjoying it with friends <3

Next week is gonna be pretty chill. I've been kinda tapped out of the games scene as of late, but I'm excited to go to some of the Game Design Days events, hang with games friends and encounter some cool art. I'm also planning to run a few times next week, and I'm excited for that too. There is really nothing that makes my body feel the same way it does after a run, like every cell has been activated and blood is coursing through my veins at 2x normal speed. It's an addicting feeling!! After a year and a half of not doing any regular running, I'm ready to get back into it.
